Our Story
A Story of Threads, Time, and Tradition
Last summer, while flipping through old albums at my ammama’s house, I stumbled upon a treasure trove of memories—beautiful, hand-embroidered dresses crafted by my amma and ammama for special occasions. Each stitch told a story, each thread a testament to their love and artistry. That moment reignited my deep connection to textiles and the beauty of handmade clothing, a passion that had always been woven into the fabric of who I am.
As an architect, I’ve always been drawn to mindful aesthetics—spaces and creations that tell a story, that honor tradition while embracing simplicity. Natural textiles like linens, cottons, and silks have always been my absolute favourites.
Maavi, which means 'ours' in Telugu, is my love letter to these values. Born from a deep appreciation for natural materials and the art of handwork, Maavi is a passion project that celebrates the beauty of mindful craftsmanship. It is an ode to our traditions, our stories, and our hands that create with love and intention. Each piece is designed to honor the legacy of those who came before us, to carry forward the artistry of our roots, and to create clothing that is truly ours—for us to wear, cherish, and pass on.
We collaborate with local artisans across India, honoring their unique techniques and traditions. From the intricate Jamdani weaving of West Bengal to the vibrant Block printing of Rajasthan, every piece is a collaboration with these talented makers. Our journey doesn’t stop there. We are always on the lookout for new communities and art forms to collaborate with. At Maavi, we don’t just make clothing—we create mindful pieces that connect us to the hands that weave, stitch, and print. Every garment is a piece of Ours-Maavi
